Sustainable Development Code Challenge
As announced in November 2024, the Saguache County Land Use office was awarded the Sustainable Code Challenge grant from the Rocky Mountain Land Use Institute, courtesy of the Gates Family Foundation. We were one of two jurisdictions to receive this opportunity, and we are now at the end of our journey with this award. We would like to express our deepest appreciation to Chris Duerksen and Jonathan Rosenbloom for their hard work and dedication to conducting their report in a timely manner. Their knowledge and experience were invaluable assets, and we hope that they will be satisfied with our end result once we complete the draft of the 1041 Regulations for Large Solar Development.
With the grant now complete and the majority of work has concluded for Mr. Duerksen and Mr. Rosenbloom, we are utilizing their findings to develop our 1041 Regulations for Large Solar Development. We will work diligently to ensure these regulations are tailored to fit Saguache County. Upon completion of the draft, the Commissioners will conduct a public hearing so please monitor the Saguache County website for updates to stay informed. Should you have inquiries, please contact Amber Wilson, Saguache County Land Use Administrator, at atorrez@saguachecounty-co.gov or 719-655-2321.

Safe Routes To School Crestone Grand Opening

The Encore Network, Encore Roadmap, and the Colorado Commission on Aging Workforce Committee teamed up for a social media campaign this May to celebrate the value of older workers and intergenerational teams.
This Wednesday, we invite you to post on your social media about Governor Polis’s Proclamation naming May as Older Americans Month. The proclamation celebrates the theme “Flipping the Script.”
An example of a wording for a social media post is shown below. When posting, please be sure to include these two hashtags - #ColoradoProud and #FlipTheScript.
So #ColoradoProud today!
Governor Jared Polis has issued a proclamation declaring May Older Americans Month, and highlighting that we’re flipping the script on aging.
The proclamation celebrates what so many of us already know: that older adulthood isn’t about winding down—it’s about stepping up. In Colorado, older adults are launching startups, returning to school, mentoring youth, and leading the way in civic engagement.
With initiatives like Lifelong Colorado, we’re building age-friendly, multigenerational communities where everyone can thrive. That’s what #LifelongColorado is all about.
Read the full proclamation on the Colorado Commission on Aging website.
Thanks for supporting Older Americans Month!
